The Valley of Grounds and Crystals
Geological history has been particularly kind to the Zillertal valley: the mineral wealth of this Alpine paradise and its numerous valleys is the result of the long and dynamic development of the Alps and their rocks. Valuable mineral resources such as gold, silver, copper, and tungsten have been found in the Zillertal, as well as beautiful crystals of numerous minerals.
Perhaps the most famous are the Zillertal garnets, which were the target of extensive mining operations 250 years ago. But the unique amethysts, diopsides, smoky quartz, apatites, and iron roses are also prized treasures in the collections of museums and collectors.
This edition presents, for the first time in a monograph, the treasures discovered in the Zillertal valley and their locations; numerous collectors, not only from the Zillertal, contributed to it. The conclusion: The Zillertal valley has earned its excellent reputation! And not just because of its minerals...
