Agate - The gemstone originated in Idar-Oberstein.

History, origin, discoveries.
No other region in Europe has produced such a wide variety of beautiful agates as the Saar-Nahe region. For centuries, the deposits of agate, jasper, amethyst, and other gemstones have been known – they were the impetus for the development of gemstone cutting and trade in what is now Idar-Oberstein.
This book describes the fascinating origin of the deposits, the history of the city, as well as finds and discovery sites.
